Mitre Agency Wins Best of Show in AIGA BOOM!

Greensboro, NC, April 4, 2009 - Mitre Agency, one of the Southeast’s leading Brand Design firms, was awarded Best of Show at the 2009 Charlotte AIGA BOOM! Design Competition for it’s brand identity for Brew Nerds Coffee franchise. In addition, Mitre took home a total of one gold, four silvers and one merit awards in five different categories – more than any other single agency.

The AIGA BOOM! Design Competition recognizes the most outstanding design work by agencies across North and South Carolina. Best of Show is selected from entries in categories including branding and identity, corporate communications, editorial design, environmental design, illustration, interactive design, motion graphics, photography and promotional design and advertising. Founded in 1914, AIGA remains the oldest and largest professional membership organization for design.

Mitre won Best of Show for the brand identity work developed for Brew Nerds Coffee. Partnering with Brew Nerds from their inception, Mitre created a lo-fi, dry witted and whimsical brand identity that appeals to people who are serious about coffee but don’t take themselves too seriously. Other Mitre clients receiving recognition were Nike’s Jordan Brand, Kernel Kustards, Downtown Winston-Salem Farmers Market, GlaxoSmithKline and Greensboro’s Triad Stage.

“Well crafted, brilliantly funny, perfect for the audience. This identity feels cohesive, yet constantly fresh.” – Drew Davies

“Coffee culture taken to a whole new accessible place. Appropriately tasty, appealing and personal.” – Josh Silverman

“A fresh idea, good production and I always love a humorous take.” – Kenna Kay

I am meeting with Will Ragsdale on Tuesday morning and would very much like to read as much as possible about Mitre and its history.
